What is Mobyko and what does it do?

Mobyko technology allows you to wirelessly sync your mobile phone with our online database allowing the transfer of address book contacts and calendar tasks and events from your phone to our secure server. You can sync from your phone 24/7, wherever you are. Or, sign in and edit and manage your contacts and events online, then at the touch of a button, send the revised details back to your phone.

Why should I trust Mobyko?

At Mobyko, we value your privacy and security very highly. We adhere strictly to UK data protection laws and will never sell rent or give any of your data to anyone else.

Are you going to spam me?

Certainly not sir/madam! We know how irritating spam can be so we won't send you a thing unless you ask us to.

What is SyncML (OMA DS)?

SyncML (Synchronization Markup Language) is the former name (currently referred to as: Open Mobile Alliance Data Synchronization or OMA DS) for an open standard sync service, which is network, application and manufacturer independent. SyncML is most commonly used to sync contacts and calendar data from mobile devices with a server, such as Mobyko.

Several major companies such as Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, LG, Samsung and Siemens support SyncML in their phones although LG and Samsung do not support it in all their phone models.

I have a Window's Mobile handset or Palm device - can I sync my contacts?

At the moment, it is not possible to sync the contacts from your Windows Mobile phone or Palm device with Mobyko but we are planning this in the near future - if you would like to be contacted when it becomes available, please contact the Support team with your details.

Can I sync with my iPhone?

Yes. You can sync your iPhone just as you would with any other phone.

I have a Blackberry - can I sync my contacts?

We can now support most Blackberry's by way of a third party external application downloadable from Nexthaus. Just sign up in the normal way and we'll help you through the process. Nexthaus may make a charge for this application.

What is the difference between synchronising and backing up?

Synchronisation is the process of keeping two sources of data the same - whilst allowing both to be changed.

A back up is simply a copy of a source, being kept safe in another location. Changes are only possible to the original - any changes to the back up will not be reflected in the original.

Mobyko allows you to sync your mobile phone contacts and your calendar with your Mobyko account. This means that you can sync with Mobyko and then edit, add or delete your contacts or calendar events either from your online account or from your phone. Then, the next time you sync, the changes from your online address book and calendar will be transferred to your phone, and the changes from your phone will be transferred to Mobyko - after a sync, both copies will be exactly the same.
